Tiger Trust is a National Level Non-governmental
Organization which was started in 1989 by the late Kailash Sankhala. He was
the Founder Director of project Tiger in 1973. The then late Prime Minister
Mrs. Indira Gandhi sent a persona appreciation letter for his contribution towards
Tiger Conservation and initiating successfully the Project Tiger. He was among
the first individuals to have raised the issue of the future of Tiger in the
year 1969 in IUCN. He apprised the world that if efforts are not made towards
a fortified steps for saving this majestic animal it could only remain on mounted
pictures. He accomplished his goal by starting Project Tiger and laying the
foundation stone for this aim.
He was honored by The President of India for his distinguished work in Tiger
Conservation with the National Award of 'Padma Shree'.
Tiger Trust works for Nature Conservation, its programs raise awareness among
people and educate them about Nature Conservation.
Through its headquarters in New Delhi, India, it has established Kailash Sankhala
Conservation Centers near Kanha National Park and Bandhavgarh National Park.
Here we work closely with the neighborhood communities, park authorities, State
Governments and other organizations.
Tiger Trust was founded by the Late Mr. Kailash Sankhala, Padmashri. He was
known as 'The Tiger Man of India'. In fact, he spearheaded the mission of Tiger
Conservation in the country. He wrote many books, some of them on Tigers. He
was well respected and honored for his work. The Government of India has instituted
the National Fellowship for Research on Wildlife. The State Award for Wildlife
Conservation by the Rajasthan Government is dedicated to Mr. Kailash Sankhala.
Following his footsteps, his son The Late Mr. Pradeep Sankhala furthered the
cause of Tiger Trust. He comes from the famous Sankhala family who has got a
long history in Tiger conservation.
The lovers of nature lost both the great Conservationists on 15th August, 1994
and 23rd May, 2003 respectively.
Ms. Anjana Gosain spearheaded the mission of Tiger Trust after the demise of
Mr. Pradeep Sankhala. Ms. Gosain has been a wildlife enthusiast since her student
days and has traveled across the globe. She is a senior lawyer with more than
25 years of standing in Hon’ble Supreme Court of India at New Delhi.
