The tiger trust in the year 2008 has carried out Wildlife Crimes Training Programmes in the following National Parks and States:-

On 20th January, 2008- It carried out a combined training programme of three National Parks – Ranthambhore National Park, Sariska National Park and Pratap Garh Sanctuary at Forest Training Institute, Jaipur.

Tiger trust enters Chhatisgarh Bastar Area , the largest belt of tribals in Central India at its capital Raipur for more than 70 Forest Guards, Rangers and Assistant Conservator Forests, on 23-24th February, 2008 and for the Forest Staff of all the Bastar Range was again carried out on 8th and 9th March, 2008 at Raipur under the Chairmainship of Sh.R.K.Sharma, Principal Chief Conservator, Chhatisgarh.

Tiger trust holds training programme at Bharatpur Bird Sanctuary on the issue of the Wildlife Crimes and encroachment in this sanctuary on 29th March, 2008.

Future Forest Officers, known as probationers were trained with former Chief Justice of High Court of Punjab & Haryana , Hon’ble Mr.Justice Arun B.Saharya as the Chief Resource Person, on 11-12th April, 2008.



Follow-Up Workshop Has been Organised from 29th-30th November on "LEGAL PROCEDURES OF OFFENCES BOOKED UNDER WILDLIFE(PROTECTION ACT),1972 AND ANCILLARY ACTS" This Workshop was organised by GOA FOREST DEPARTMENT and TIGER TRUST,New Delhi.

towards environment on 5th June 2006 along with Mr. Mike Pandy, noted wildlife filmmaker and conservationist and Mr. P.K. Sen, Ex-Director Project Tiger, in the presence of environmentalists, conservationists and prominent wildlife personalities, was honoured by Uppal Orchid leading Eco-Tel Hotel, Delhi.


Crisis of management in Ranthambhor National Park and In Bandhavgarh National Park.

5th April, 2007 - A public interest litigation has been filed by the local people seeking to enforce regulations for better management and more sensitive approach by the protectors in Rajasthan High Court at Jaipur, finally argued on 5th April, 2007. Orders are reserved. However, the Tiger Trust has urged as one of the parties that all the vehicles permitted in the park should be on petrol/ CNG or battery for prevention of noise pollution and air pollution to enhance the recruitment of staff for better enforcement, to spend the park development fund on eco-development funds, to freeze further mushrooming of hotels around the national parks, regulated eco-tourism and many other suggestions for better management and protection of tiger.

Shifting of male tiger cub from the natural environment to zoo in Bandhavgarh National Park by the authorities.

It has been learnt that one male cub due to disturbance by human beings entered the village and killed a cow and his mother had earlier killed a woman in the nearest village around the park. The tigress was tranquilized and shifted to Bhopal Zoo. Same is the fate for the male cub. Is it justified, Tiger Trust has decided to intervene by urging the authorities to look for alternative methods for avoiding this step as due to unabated disturbance by human beings, resulting in this conflict. The authorities have at the moment stop the action and are considering the alternative steps. We are awaiting for the response.

Medical Camp at Sariska held in December 2006 for Forest Staff and villagers.

A complete medical camp was organized by Tiger Trust along with Mehar Bhargava Foundation and the Forest Staff along with villagers were screened by very efficient medical team of doctors and it was found that they were suffering from stress, blood pressure, diabetes and colic disorders due to long hours and unavailability of food at regular intervals. Necessary recommendations have been sent to the concerned departments for better option.

Tracking of wildlife crime cases in Sariska since June 2006 to May 2007

The Forest Department has registered several cases and Tiger Trust is following up with the prosecutors and updating them on the steps to be taken for expeditious trial under the agreement with Forest Department. The conviction of three poachers in leopard case with punishment of 4 years & maximum 5 years by the competent court in Sariska National Park on 11th May 2007.

The Ministry of Environment and Forest for bringing more teeth and making it deterrent for poachers is reviewing the Amendments under Wildlife Protection Act, 1972.

Panel debate on Schedule Tribes (Recognition of Forest Rights) Act, 2007

This is Act has recognized the rights of tribes around the National Parks and has created discussion among the supporters and opposers. The Tiger Trust has held several workshops in this subject. The topic was “Landscape of Hope and Despair-Effect of Conservation on Tiger by Legislation” at Hotel Maurya organized by Rotary Club of India 15th September, 2006.
